Don’t bag. Leave your grass clippings on the lawn to turn into a natural fertilizer, decomposing, releasing water and nutrients into the soil.
Ensure a healthy lawn. Choose a grass variety that grows well in our climate.
Decrease your carbon footprint. Select an electric or battery-powered lawn mower versus gas.
Aerate soil. Compacted soil may need to be aerated to promote healthy grass growth. Interestingly, ants can actually do a good job of aerating. If they are not causing an indoor infestation, let them do their work. They also eat harmful insects, pollinate flowers, and distribute seeds.
Longer is better. A longer grass blade allows intake of more sunshine and promotes development of a healthier plant with deeper roots. Rule of thumb: Never cut more than one third of the blade.
