Avoid single-serving or travel-size plastic packages.
When you order takeout, let the business know you do not need plastic cutlery. Keep a set of silverware handy in your car, or purse or drawer at work.
Eating out: Bring your own food storage containers for your leftovers.
Boycott the facial scrubs, toothpastes, body washes that contain the little plastic scrubbers called microbeads. The microbeads’ tiny size makes it difficult to remove them during water treatment, allowing them to escape into the environment where they sicken marine animals who eat them thinking they are food. Choose products with natural exfoliants such as oatmeal or salt.
If you have leftover containers from yogurt, margarine, cottage cheese, for example, wash and use these to store food at home.
Buy your cup of coffee where they allow you to use your travel mug.
Lighting a candle or a campfire, use matches or buy a refillable lighter, rather than the disposable plastic ones.
