LIVING THE GOSPEL, CHANGING LIVES” -- 2019 BISHOP’S APPEAL ~ Our goal this year is $191,199. To date we have received 435 gifts (outright gifts and amounts pledged), a total of $183,815 toward our goal. Thank you in advance for your generous support.
Letter to a Suffering Church ~ As you probably are aware, in February Governor Cuomo signed the CHILD VICTIMS ACT. One of the provisions of the Act is to open a one year window to all victims of child sexual abuse to seek civil action, regardless of how long ago the abuse occurred. This “look-back” period begins on August 14. The Catholic Church has been one of several institutions tarnished by the sexual abuse crisis. There will no doubt be lots of publicity in the coming days. In an attempt to try to help our parishioners navigate these troubled waters we have ordered a small booklet by Bishop Robert Barron titled “Letter to a Suffering Church: A Bishop Speaks on the Sexual Abuse Crisis” Bishop Barron is well respected as an effective communicator in the Catholic Church. We invite you to pick up your free copy (one per family, please) after Masses NEXT WEEKEND. In the fall we hope to offer small group discussions for anyone who may wish to continue the conversation.
Thursday, August 15, is the
Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a Holyday of Obligation. Masses will be celebrated at 7:30 a.m. and at 12:15 and 5:30 p.m.
