The first project is located in SE Kenya and serves 500 persons of the Kivani community. The project consisted of a shallow well and above ground hand pump that is supplied water from a sand reservoir located behind a recently constructed small dam that captures and stores seasonal rainfall flowing to it from a river bed that is dry most of the year. The second project is located in the central western part of Kenya and serves 500 students and persons at the Shanjero Primary School. It consists of a large onsite tank and system to collect and store rainwater. Construction of latrines and hand washing stations were also part of the project. The Spring of 2018 seasonal rainfall in Kenya was severe and resulted in extensive flooding and destruction in a very large part of the country. Dam failures, flooding and destruction of crop land and whole villages, loss of 300 lives, displacement of 100,000s and disease outbreaks occurred and international assistance is helping to deal with the aftermath. Fortunately, the two projects were not harmed. Although there was some flooding, the intense rainfall filled up the storage facilities for both projects so they are fully functional.
