Choose "green" fishing equipment such as biodegradable lines. Regular lines can take 600 years to degrade while biodegradable ones can decompose in about two years.
If you can't find biodegradable line, be careful not to leave broken line snagged in the lake or waterway.
Select brass, steel, iron, or tungsten weights rather than lead. Lead can poison fish and other wildlife.
If you are not practicing “catch and release,” take only the number of fish you can use.
When possible, choose to row your boat versus using a motorboat. It will give you some exercise and reduce carbon emissions. If you do need to use a motorboat, opt for one of the new motors whose propellers increase fuel efficiency by 20 percent.
