Won’t You Be My Neighbor—the PBS special on the story of Fred Rogers that aired recently ended with Mr. Rogers final words to each of us—“Tikkun Olam.” These are ancient Jewish words that are so appropriate and needed today. They mean “be repairers of creation.” Each of us needs to discover and act on how we might be the healers needed today of society, of our damaged earth and seas, of relationships —all those small and large areas of life that need repair and healing. It is not the responsibility of someone else, it is each of us as individuals, as a parish, as a community. Let us together—in prayer, in dialogue, and action—accept and embrace this commandment.
