Advent is here and with it the beginning of a new liturgical year. It may not be typical to set personal goals now, but this is not a typical year.
In Laudato Si’ Pope Francis calls us to Care For Our Common Home. What better goal, in this year of pandemic, social unrest and political division, than commitment to protecting the gift of Creation: its people, flora, fauna, the environment. How better to thank God for our universe, to welcome His Son to earth, than to embrace new habits that demonstrate our gratitude for Creation.
As we step into Advent this Sunday, consider adding a prayer for peace and justice to your daily routine, start composting either in your own backyard or through a local company that will collect your food scraps, grow your own herbs, turn off the light when you leave a room, go vegan, at least once a week; buy reusable stainless steel straws. Set a Creation Care goal: for life, for the love of God.
